The Lost Diamond Engagement Ring Returned by a Homeless Man
The story starts when Sarah Darling of Kansas City put some money in the container of a homeless man along the road. Miss Darling accidentally put in more than just the coins, as it included her diamond engagement ring.
Miss Darling recalled that she put the ring in her wallet because it was bothering her. And when she fished out the money, she forgot that the ring was mixed with the money. It was only until she got home that she discovered the loss.
She came back to the man named Billy Ray Harris the next day and he promptly returned the ring. This just goes to show that “need” or being “in lack” is not reason enough to steal. Here is a man who had in possession something very valuable that he could have sold for thousands of dollars and he could have just run away immediately with the discovery, but he didn’t do those things. He waited for the owner to come back and get it. A news report said, “The homeless man cited his reverend grandfather, who raised him since he was 6 months old, as the reason for his character trait that returned the ring to the woman.”
I think it was really God’s will that this happened. Because of this incident, Harris and his life was brought to international attention. Darling wanted to raise money for him and reward his honesty and now, the movement that was supposed to raise just $1000 for this man now has over $16,000 in donations.
Harris has some family members in Texas but did not want to go to them because he did not want to be a burden to them. But now that he has money, maybe he can already start a new life with his family.
