It is directed by Mark dela Cruz and is set to premiere on October 22, 2018. The show will be part of the network’s Afternoon Prime and Sabado Star Power sa Hapon line up replacing Ika-5 Utos’.
Originally entitled The Betrayed Wife and later called Mag-asawa, Magkaribal, this drama marks as the comeback show of Cruz in the network after 18 years.
Rachel (Kris Bernal) meets Nathan (Jason Abalos), a gay man who later marries her due to family pressure. Unhappy and trapped, Nathan fakes his own death and later undergoes a sexual reassignment and facial reconstruction surgery in another country.
Many years later, Rachel meets Gavin (Rayver Cruz) and falls in love with. But Gavin has a wife, Venus (Thea Tolentino) whom Rachel will eventually find out to be her former husband (Abalos).
This is the first show on primetime TV that will address gender equality. The cast is quite excited about the story. Kris says that they would like the story to touch everyone and to encourage acceptance in our society.
Meanwhile, Rayver says that his role is quite tricky because he never knew that his wife is a transwoman. But he says that he believes in the message of the show because he also believes that everyone has the right to love and be loved. He is also very thankful to his co-stars because he says they are very powerful actors, which makes the scenes so much easier.
Thea is also very happy and excited to be part of the show. She is also looking forward to encouraging acceptance of gay people coming, especially from their own parents.
Every TV show has its own drama and the marriage situation in Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko is not your usual. It’s not the same old love triangle. It’s very interesting. We are curious to watch this and how it plays till the end.
