Awit at Laro in Bacolod
Pinoy songs and games are already getting lost in our current generation because of digital turnover. Thankfully, the movement called Awit at Laro spearheaded by Gary V is helping us reconnect to our Pinoy childhood.
Our Kids Need to Play Physical Games
Isn’t it sad that we have reached a state where we need celebrities to take the initiative just to promote or intentionally get kids to play games beyond their handheld gadgets?
Yet, it is also inspiring that celebrities like Gary Valenciano are taking an active role to make kids enjoy the games we used to play.
I also really appreciate that Ayala companies, from their subdivision to their malls, have incorporated giant game boards on their playgrounds where children and the young at heart can enjoy and reminisce Pinoy games. More than giving our kids nice clothes and toys or sending them to good schools, part of parenting should also allowing them to play physical games.
Gary V and Awit at Laro
Just before Christmas, Gary V came to Bacolod and brought the movement Awit at Laro to Ayala Malls Capitol Central. The aim of this campaign is to get children to move and discover traditional Pinoy games and songs.
It is an effort with a three-pronged purpose:
- Fund raising for UNICEF through the sale of books and albums
- Encouraging children and teens to get out more and play
- Rediscovering Filipino culture through games, songs, and dance
Awit at Laro Mall Shows
To promote this campaign, Awit at Laro shows were held in 22 Ayala malls all over the country. Among all of them, Gary V performed in 17. What a miracle it has been that Mr. Pure Energy was able to pull it off despite battling two major health obstacles this year. God is good!
Bacolod is their last stop and the City of Smiles was blessed to see Gary V performed at the top of his game. I was so happy to hear him perform live once again, singing his famous hits from the 80s and 90s like Sana Maulit Muli, Hataw Na, Shout for Joy, Di Bale Na Lang, and many more while doing his signature moves.
At Ayala Malls Capitol Central
Before the Awit at Laro show started, kids from the audience were encouraged to play on the giant game boards set up outside the concert venue. They were led by the dancers from Steps Dance Studio who were composed of children and teens. They also gave out Awit at Laro shirts afterwards.
The show was opened by Ms. Katrina Velarde who never fails to wow the audience with her powerful voice.
Meanwhile, the Steps dancers gave intermission numbers of dances that depict Pinoy games like piko, patintero, luksong tinik, and many more.
Gary V was at his best form and he thanked the Bacolodnons for being such a wonderful audience. He sang many songs that it turned out to be a mini concert, which delighted all of us who were watching. It was such a wonderful Christmas gift to Gary V fans.
Thank you Gary V and Ayala Malls Capitol Central for making this happen!
