Napoleones is a long-time favorite Bacolod pasalubong treat. One of the yummiest ones can be found at Merzci Pasalubong–a pasalubong brand with the tagline, “Tanan manamit! (Everything is yummy!)” It is no wonder that the Merzci Napoleones is sought-after, even at the Merzci Blumentritt branch in Manila. And now, they are introducing a new variant that is tickling people’s fancy: the Merzci Pasalubong Ube Napoleones.
Memories of My Mama
At home, if there is one person who is obsessed with the ube flavor, that would be my Mama who passed away last 2021. I have written about my parents’ passing, two of the casualties of the COVID-19 Delta variant. Papa and Mama passed away on the same day, which marked the end of the couple better known as Wilmar–the foundations of our store called Bacolod Wilmar Enterprises.
Despite being diet-conscious, Mama sought all those ube-flavored desserts. Even our long-time helper (who also passed a few months after Mama and Papa died), favored ube, which I think was influenced by Mama’s taste.
During the press conference for the 37th Negros Trade Fair here in Bacolod City, I learned that there is now an ube-flavored ensaymada, another kind of bread that Mama liked.
And now, we have the Merzci Pasalubong Ube Napoleones.
Why did they come out only now? As I take a bite of the ube napoleones, I whisper to the wind, “Ma, this is for you.”

On September 1, 2023, the Merzci Pasalubong Ube Napoleones will be exclusively launched together with the grand opening of the Merzci East Branch along Burgos Street in Bacolod City. It will be available at a promo price until September 7. Check the prices below:

Following the exclusive launch, the Ube Napoleones will be available at all Merzci branches around the country starting September 8.
