Barangay Electrician Training in Negros Occidental

Seventy-seven barangay electricians from four cities in Negros Occidental have completed the first Barangay Electrician Livelihood Training (BELT) held on October 9, 2025.

The full-day skills and livelihood training took place at the Provincial Government Office. It is a pioneering effort to improve community safety and create steady income opportunities.
This barangay electrician training in Negros Occidental is among the first of its kind in the region. It aims to build a strong network of skilled electricians in local communities.

Participants from Four Negros Cities

The first phase of the BELT program included electricians from:

  • Bacolod City – 28 participants
  • Bago City – 20 participants
  • Talisay City – 18 participants
  • Silay City – 11 participants

The event marks a milestone in local empowerment for Negros Occidental. It combines technical upskilling with better livelihood opportunities.


A Collaboration Between Negros Power, TESDA, and Barangay Leaders

The training is a joint project of Negros Power, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and local barangay leaders.

Its main goals are to:

  • Enhance electricians’ skills in safe residential wiring
  • Strengthen partnerships among community stakeholders
  • Promote decent livelihood opportunities for the graduates

This collaboration highlights the importance of electrician education and continued learning as a way to improve safety and build sustainable careers in Negros Occidental.

Empowering Electricians Through Skills and Opportunity

Maricel Pe, Assistant Vice President for Customer Care and Marketing Head of Negros Power, explained the program’s purpose.

“The BELT program is not just about training—it’s about empowerment. Our barangay electricians are our partners in ensuring that every home and community is safe, well-lit, and future-ready. Through the support of TESDA and our local leaders, we provide skills and opportunities that help build better and more sustainable livelihoods.”

Expanding the Barangay Electrician Livelihood Training (BELT)

After its successful launch, Negros Power and TESDA are preparing for the next phase of the program.
The second training will be held on October 29, 2025, in Murcia.

This upcoming session will expand the barangay electrician training in Negros Occidental to more communities. It continues the mission of promoting safe electrical practices and sustainable livelihoods across the province.
