Negros Power August 2026 electricity rate increased slightly to ₱14.2787 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for average residential customers.
That is ₱0.1500 per kWh higher than July’s rate of ₱14.1287 per kWh.
However, the increase did not come from a higher generation charge. In fact, the generation charge decreased by ₱0.3364/kWh for August.
Instead, higher transmission and other charges pushed the overall rate higher. The increase also comes as the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) rate rose due to higher electricity demand and the temporary unavailability of several power plants.
WESM rate increased as power demand rose
The WESM rate increased from ₱10.4213/kWh to ₱12.2420/kWh.
Higher electricity demand contributed to the increase. Meanwhile, several power plants were temporarily unavailable.
These conditions resulted in Yellow and Red Alerts in the Luzon and Visayas grids. As a result, electricity prices in the spot market increased.
Despite the higher WESM rate, the generation charge for August actually decreased.
Negros Power is spreading the recovery of the higher WESM costs over five months. Instead of recovering the full increase in one billing month, the company is staggering the recovery.
This approach helped reduce the immediate impact of the higher WESM costs on the August generation charge.
Higher transmission and other charges
While the generation charge decreased, transmission charges increased by ₱0.2593/kWh.
The increase was mainly due to higher transmission and ancillary services for reserve market charges.
The August rate also includes the implementation of the new Feed-in Tariff (FIT) rate of ₱0.3359/kWh. In addition, Real Property and Local Taxes for the third quarter are included.
For August, the average rates are:
- Residential customers: ₱14.2787/kWh
- Low-voltage customers: ₱14.3216/kWh
- High-voltage customers: ₱13.2520/kWh
Overall, the August rate reflects different changes in the components of the electricity bill.
The generation charge went down. However, higher transmission and other charges partly offset that reduction.
As a result, the average residential rate increased by approximately ₱0.15 per kWh this August.
Negros Power continues to manage the recovery of higher electricity costs over several months. This helps minimize the impact of those costs on customers’ monthly electricity bills.
