As Northern Negros faces a power crisis affecting thousands, Negros Power has promptly extended its support to the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO). On October 15, over 30,000 residents in EB Magalona, Manapla, and Victorias City were left without electricity. This happened after NOCECO’s 12.5 MegaVolt Amperes (MVA) transformer at Victorias Substation failed.

Emergency Power Supply to Aid NONECO
Faced with this critical situation, NONECO reached out to Negros Power for help, requesting a 2-megawatt (MW) temporary power supply. Following a thorough evaluation, Negros Power responded promptly. They connected Feeder 3 of their Lopez Substation to NONECO’s feeder lines in Barangay San Jose, EB Magalona, to restore power to the affected areas.

Negros Power President and CEO Roel Castro expressed the company’s commitment to helping NONECO and its consumers during this challenging time. In his statement, Castro said:
“We understand the difficulties faced by our fellow industry player and neighbor, NONECO, and their consumers during this challenging time. We didn’t hesitate to extend our support by providing them with 2 megawatts of temporary supply from our Lopez and Panaogao substations. We hope this will alleviate the inconvenience they are experiencing.”
Ongoing Support Until Full Restoration
Negros Power has assured continued assistance to NONECO until their Victorias Substation is fully operational again. In the meantime, the temporary power supply from Negros Power aims to reduce the impact of the blackout on consumers.
Castro emphasized that this emergency assistance will not affect Negros Power’s own consumers in Bacolod City and Central Negros:
“Negros Power consumers should rest assured that this will not affect our load capacity. We have sufficient load to meet the demand within our franchise area. However, we will closely monitor our substations to ensure a continuous and reliable power supply.”

Addressing the Importance of Reliability
Much like Bacolod’s recent struggles with the Alijis Substation breakdown, NONECO is now facing a similar crisis with significant outages. Both incidents highlight the need for reliable infrastructure and quick response mechanisms. Negros Power’s ability to assist during crises emphasizes the importance of cooperation between utilities. Their temporary power support for NONECO ensures uninterrupted service for consumers.
As NONECO works to restore their Victorias Substation, Negros Power will continue monitoring the situation. They will also provide support to their neighboring electric cooperative. This ensures that affected consumers experience minimal disruption.
This proactive and neighborly action demonstrates the company’s commitment to maintaining stable power in the region. At the same time, they safeguard the reliability of their own grid.
Negros Power remains dedicated to both its consumers and neighboring communities. They reaffirm their role as a reliable partner during power emergencies.
