Negros Power worked on upgrades of the Panaogao Substation and Sum-ag Substation on March 22 and 23, 2025. The company continues to pursue its commitment to modernizing the power infrastructure of Central Negros. During that weekend, the company focused on critical upgrades to the said substations. These enhancements are part of the company’s broader five-year rehabilitation program aimed at delivering a more reliable and efficient power system.

Key Negros Power Substation Upgrades for a Stronger Grid
The recent improvements took place over two days:
- Panaogao Substation (Silay City) – Upgraded on Saturday, March 22, from 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM, affecting 10,221 consumers.
- Sum-ag Substation (Bacolod City) – Upgraded on Sunday, March 23, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
These scheduled maintenance activities were necessary to enhance the substations’ reliability and prevent future disruptions.
What Was Upgraded?
Negros Power implemented several critical improvements, including:
- ✔ Protection system upgrades – Enhancing safety and efficiency.
- ✔ New insulators and disconnect switches – Improving power flow stability.
- ✔ Current transformer replacements – Ensuring accurate power monitoring.
- ✔ Hotspot corrections – Reducing overheating risks.
- ✔ Installation of ‘tree wires’ – Preventing outages caused by vegetation interference.
These upgrades reinforce power stability, making the grid more resilient against environmental factors such as storms and tree growth.
