Negros Power World Ocean Day Mangrove Planting highlighted the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community development during a World Ocean Day celebration in Bago City.
In celebration of World Ocean Day, Negros Power joined the Mangrove Planting and Coastal Cleanup Activity organized by the City Environment Management Office (CEMO) on June 9, 2025. The activity took place at Purok Calubay, Barangay Sampinit, Bago City.
The environmental activity gathered around 200 participants. Representatives from government agencies, private organizations, community groups, and volunteer groups joined the event. Together, they promoted coastal conservation and environmental protection.
As part of the initiative, participants planted 5,000 mangrove propagules along the coastal area. The planting aims to strengthen shoreline protection, improve marine biodiversity, and support climate change mitigation efforts.
The mangrove species planted included Bakhaw Bato (Rhizophora stylosa), Bakhaw Babayi (Rhizophora mucronata), Bungalon (Avicennia rumphiana), and Avicennia marina (Grey Mangrove).
Supporting Coastal Conservation Efforts
Participants also conducted a coastal cleanup drive. They collected waste materials along the shoreline to help preserve coastal ecosystems. The activity also encouraged greater environmental responsibility among community members.
Negros Power’s participation forms part of its “Ikaw Ang Una” campaign. The campaign emphasizes putting communities first through meaningful programs. It promotes safety, sustainability, and social responsibility.
Through initiatives such as mangrove planting and coastal cleanup activities, the company continues to support environmental protection. At the same time, it seeks to create positive impacts for future generations.
According to Unice Castillon, Community Relations Assistant Manager of Negros Power, environmental conservation aligns with the company’s commitment to serving communities beyond providing reliable electricity service.

Protecting our environment is a shared responsibility, and activities like mangrove planting and coastal cleanup allow us to contribute to the preservation of our coastal resources while inspiring others to take part in environmental stewardship. We are grateful for the opportunity to join this meaningful World Ocean Day celebration and support efforts toward a greener and more sustainable future,” Castillon said.

Mangrove forests play a vital role in protecting coastal communities. They help reduce erosion, lessen the impact of storm surges, and support climate resilience. They also serve as breeding grounds and habitats for many marine species.
The successful planting of 5,000 mangrove propagules will help strengthen the coastal ecosystem of Barangay Sampinit. It also contributes to long-term environmental sustainability in the area.
