Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod Biodiesel Project

The Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod Biodiesel Project continues to drive real impact as it strengthens the circular economy in Bacolod. At a time of global fuel volatility, the hotel pushes forward with practical, community-based solutions.

What started in 2024 as a localized waste-to-energy effort has now grown into a strong model of public-private partnership. More importantly, it shows how sustainability can directly support livelihoods.

Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod Biodiesel Project Expands Community Impact

The hotel’s flagship Biodiesel Project converts used cooking oil (UCO) into high-grade fuel. Recently, it reached a new milestone through a partnership with the Congressional Office of Representative Albee Benitez.

The hotel donated 200 liters of biodiesel to residents of Brgy. Singcang. As a result, total contributions now stand at 2,600 liters since the project began.

Based on average production per sail, this fuel can support around 16 tons of collective catch for local fisherfolk. In other words, waste becomes a direct source of income.

Instead of discarding kitchen waste, the hotel repurposes it into energy. This approach helps communities cope with rising fuel costs while reducing environmental harm.

A Circular Economy Model Backed by Strong Partnerships

The success of the Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod Biodiesel Project relies on its technical partnership with Green Solutions. The team, led by CEO Engr. Ian Fred Solas, ensures proper chemical conversion of UCO into clean-burning fuel.

Because of this process, waste no longer ends up in drainage systems or landfills. Instead, it becomes a valuable resource.

“Sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity, especially as we navigate the complexities of the global fuel market,” says Reljun Oloroso, Director of People & Culture and the hotel’s sustainability champion. “This ongoing project shows that by working with the government and technical experts like Engr. Solas, we can prove that ‘waste’ is simply a resource in the wrong place.”

Showcasing Sustainability at Panaad sa Negros

The City Government of Bacolod recognized these efforts and invited the hotel to present its initiatives at the Panaad sa Negros Festival.

At the Bacolod LGU Pavilion, visitors can explore several sustainability programs:

  • The Biodiesel Project: A model for waste-to-energy conversion
  • Tela Tales: A three-year program that transforms used linens into products while supporting 15 volunteers in Brgy. Felisa
  • Bokashi Method: A four-year system that converts organic waste into compost for the Negros Economic Development Foundation (NEDF)

To date, the Bokashi project has processed 100,000 kilos of food waste. It has also supported 55 farmers through a closed-loop system that benefits both the hotel and local agriculture.

A Greener Future for Hospitality

As the only hotel in Negros with the Hotel Sustainability Basics certification, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod continues to lead by example.

By integrating sustainability into daily operations, the hotel proves that circular economy practices are not only possible but scalable.

With initiatives like the Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod Biodiesel Project, the future of Philippine tourism looks more responsible and community-driven.

How do you think more hotels can turn everyday waste into something this impactful?
