Special blend coffee is not just about having premium coffee made from special beans. If you buy special blend coffee beans, you will see and even feel the difference. Read more about my experience.
Buying the UCC Special Blend Coffee Beans
Before I proceed, let me tell you that I am not a coffee expert. I just love drinking coffee and I appreciate a cup of brewed goodness. Meanwhile, I make coffee for the wifey every morning and she takes hers black. She gets a headache if she doesn’t get her morning coffee. That is why, we are the caffeinated couple.
What I prefer is buying beans, whether imported or from the wet market, and grinding what I need for one time. I think this is the closest to getting the freshest brewed coffee with the richest aroma.
Anyway, there was a sale one time on Shopee and I got the UCC coffee beans at a discounted price. So I got a pack of the Special Blend Coffee Beans and the Italian Roast Beans.
One morning, as I was grinding the beans to be loaded in our Imarflex coffee maker, I noticed that the beans looked mixed. Some were light and some were dark.
Since I am not a coffee expert, I am not sure if this is because different beans were used or their roasting times vary.
Comparing Coffee Beans
After I was able to open the UCC Italian Roast, I notice that the beans looked different from the other pack. See the picture below.
So now, I cannot really tell you the difference between the beans, aside from how they look. What I know is that I like them both and so does the wifey. They are easy to drink and do not have a bitter aftertaste—a sign that they are not over-roasted.
Since wifey drinks her coffee hot and black, she gets to savor the pure coffee flavor. However, she doesn’t like it too concentrated, so she dilutes what I make for her with about 25% hot water.
Understanding Coffee
Some people will say that premium coffee is just too expensive. True, but there are reasons that contribute to the high price. From the planting of the coffee plant to the brewing of the coffee, there’s so much that goes on. There’s a lot of effort and capitalization that goes into it.
If you want to enjoy good coffee but don’t want to pay much, you can buy coffee beans, grind them at home, and brew the grounds fresh. Then use the grounds as fertilizer in your wife’s garden.
Have a good cup!
