What the Negros Power 69kV Line Upgrade Means

The Negros Power 69kV line upgrade involved the complete overhaul of a 30-kilometer power line that links substations of Negros Power and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). This vital connection helps ensure that electricity flows smoothly from the main grid to consumers.

Before this upgrade, residents often experienced two to three unplanned outages each week due to broken porcelain insulators. Now, those problems are a thing of the past.

“There have been zero insulator failures since December 2024,” said Roel Z. Castro, President and CEO of Negros Power.

A Closer Look at the Power Line Rehabilitation

This massive project involved:

  • Replacing 266 structures across 7 major segments
  • Covering 29.87 circuit kilometers
  • Upgrading porcelain insulators to durable polymer insulators
  • Navigating difficult terrain—37% of the poles were located in hard-to-reach off-road areas

Despite the physical and logistical challenges, the project was completed 100%—a testament to the commitment of Negros Power’s line workers and engineers.

How the Negros Power 69kV Line Upgrade Supports Economic Growth

The completion of the line upgrade is more than just a technical improvement—it supports business growth, economic development, and consumer trust.

“Stable and modern power is essential to economic growth. The direction Negros Power is taking is exactly what Bacolod and the rest of Central Negros need,” said Frank Carbon, Co-Chair of the Energy and Power Committee of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Visayas.

A Commitment to Long-Term Solutions

“This is not just an upgrade,” said Castro. “This is a clear message to every consumer that Negros Power is serious about system reliability, safety, and long-term progress.”

With this newly upgraded transmission line, Central Negros is now in a better position to enjoy more stable electricity, fewer outages, and a stronger foundation for future developments.

More Upgrades to Come

This project is just the beginning. Negros Power has lined up several infrastructure initiatives in its five-year development plan, all aimed at modernizing the power distribution system across Central Negros. These include upgrading more sub-transmission lines, rehabilitating substations, and adopting new technologies to minimize outages and improve power quality. Consumers can expect more proactive solutions that will benefit both residential and commercial sectors.
