A New Era for Central Negros: Negros Power Improvements 2025 Begin Strong
During a recent presentation to consumer and business leaders, Negros Power President and CEO Roel Z. Castro detailed how the company is modernizing local power services.
“From day one, our goal has been to modernize the system, restore public confidence, and extend reliable, responsive electric service to all,” Castro said. “The progress we’ve made is just the beginning.”

Major Infrastructure Developments Under Negros Power
Negros Power prioritized major facility upgrades. The company fully rehabilitated the Alijis Substation, installing new and uprated power transformers. It also improved other substations to boost capacity and strengthen resilience.
Workers completed the 30-kilometer Bacolod–Silay 69kV subtransmission line rehab, replacing old poles and installing new pin insulators. They also carried out large-scale vegetation clearing, minimizing outage risks and increasing system reliability.
To reduce power interruptions, the team added:
- Automatic Circuit Reclosers
- Load Break and Disconnect Switches
- Insulated lines to replace bare wires
- Rubber inserts to prevent animal intrusions
Better Power Quality, Safer Distribution
Negros Power installed energy-efficient distribution transformers throughout the franchise area. These upgrades help manage electrical load and improve the quality of power delivered to homes and businesses.
To protect consumers from illegal tapping, the company launched anti-electricity pilferage campaigns. These efforts ensure that paying customers no longer shoulder the burden of system loss.
Consumer-Friendly Services Drive Negros Power Improvements
Consumer convenience remains central to Negros Power’s operations. Over the past nine months, the company:
- Replaced thousands of defective electric meters with digital models—at no cost to consumers
- Opened more than 100 new payment centers, making bills easier to settle
- Streamlined the application process for new connections and now helps with OBO permit processing
To improve communication, Negros Power established:
- A 24/7 customer service team via helplines and Facebook Messenger
- Real-time updates and advisories on social media
Powering Remote Communities
Through the Sitio Electrification Program, Negros Power brought electricity to 17 sitios that previously had no access. The program benefits 1,671 households, with an investment of nearly ₱26 million.
“No one should be left in the dark,” Castro said. “This program is about progress and inclusion.”
Advanced Technologies Are Now in Place
Negros Power has already started executing its modernization roadmap. The company is now using:
- A centralized control center
- SCADA systems for real-time system control
- Drones for aerial surveys and thermal scanning
- GIS mapping to monitor physical assets
- Real-time monitoring to speed up emergency response and maintenance
The Underground Distribution System project along Lacson Street is also in progress. It’s expected to be completed in time for the MassKara Festival in October.
Competitive and Affordable Power Rates
Despite the wave of infrastructure investments, Negros Power still offers the lowest average rates in the region. This was made possible by:
- Strategic power supply contracting
- Active monitoring of spot market prices to secure competitive generation rates
Community Leaders Praise the Changes
Business and community leaders noticed the rapid improvements:
Wennie Sancho of ACCESS: “Negros Power is changing the narrative by putting consumer welfare at the center.”
Frank Carbon of PCCI Visayas: “Stable and modern power is essential to economic growth. This direction is exactly what we need.”
Atty. Arnel Lapore, CENECO: “Efficient management and a clear vision have brought much-needed improvements.”
Christian Weber of Amlig Kuryente: “There’s transparency. The improvements are real.”
Atty. Cesar Beloria: “The transformation is impressive. We’re ready to support it because it benefits all of us.”

Looking Ahead: Sustained Progress for Central Negros
Negros Power isn’t slowing down. The company remains committed to:
- Investing in modern infrastructure
- Adopting advanced technologies
- Expanding customer care programs
- Delivering inclusive service across Central Negros
“The journey has just begun,” Castro said. “We’re asking for patience as we complete our full rehabilitation and modernization plan over the next four years.”
Negros Power improvements 2025 prove that transformative change is possible—even in under a year—through strategic upgrades, bold leadership, and a strong focus on consumers. The future of power in Central Negros is looking brighter than ever.
