Thanks to heightened vigilance and proactive action, Negros Power successfully detected a critical issue that could have led to a major power outage in Bacolod City. Using thermal scanners, the company discovered that the 69 kV Group Operated Air Break Switch on the sub-transmission line—connecting the NGCP substation to Negros Power’s Burgos and Mt. View substations—was dangerously overheating.

Thermal scans showed a temperature of 316 degrees Celsius, nearly 4.5 times the normal operating level of 70 degrees. This signaled an imminent risk of failure and a possible large-scale outage.

To immediately address the issue and ensure the safety of their linemen, Negros Power will carry out emergency hotspot corrections early tomorrow morning. This essential maintenance will require a temporary power interruption from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
“We understand that this temporary outage may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize,” Negros Power said in a social media post. “We appeal for your patience and understanding as we work to prevent a much bigger and longer power disruption. This proactive maintenance reflects our commitment to providing reliable power to our community. We truly appreciate your cooperation.”
