Negros Power cuts system loss significantly through a targeted anti-pilferage campaign and system modernization. The power utility brought system loss down from 11.84% in August 2024 to 8.03% in May 2025, now below the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) cap of 8.25%. This shows measurable progress in improving efficiency and curbing electricity theft across Central Negros.

Why Negros Power Cuts System Loss Matters

System loss refers to electricity that is generated but never billed, often due to technical issues or power theft. It translates to lost income for utilities and, eventually, higher rates for paying customers. That’s why reducing system loss is both an economic and ethical priority for energy providers like Negros Power.

How Negros Power Cuts System Loss Through Enforcement

Between November 2024 and June 25, 2025, Negros Power conducted 1,704 enforcement operations, uncovering:

  • 789 illegal connections
  • 1,156 unauthorized load-side connections

These efforts helped the company hit 96% of its inspection targets.

“This is more than enforcement,” said Engr. Edwin Montemayor, System Loss Reduction Consultant. “It’s about ensuring every household enjoys fair, stable, and safe electricity.”

Upgrades and Meter Replacements to Strengthen the Grid

As part of its System Loss Reduction Program (SLRP), Negros Power also:

  • Deployed 153 check meters to detect abnormal usage
  • Replaced 13,308 outdated electric meters
  • Modernized its metering system for better monitoring

These upgrades improve transparency and make it harder for illegal connections to go undetected.

Legal Action Against Power Theft

The utility is also taking a firm stance against repeat offenders. Two criminal cases have already been filed, and more are being prepared as part of Negros Power’s zero-tolerance policy against electricity pilferage.

For the public, the benefits are clear:

  • Lower system loss = more stable rates
  • Modern meters = accurate billing
  • Crackdown on theft = fairer power distribution

With the Negros Power anti-pilferage campaign ongoing, residents can expect continued improvements in service reliability, billing accuracy, and overall energy efficiency.
