Homecooked Dishes that Bagged Me a Boyfriend (Eventually the Husband)

They say that a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Well, this is our true-to-life story. This is how my two homecooked dishes snagged me an Asian boyfriend who eventually became my husband.

Two Homecooked Dishes Made This Guy Sure of Me

I met this guy in church in June 1999. He was introduced by our pastor who was also our cell group leader. This guy had just finished his engineering degree in Cebu and passed the board. He came back to Bacolod City in order to serve in his home church. After that, he started hanging out with us.

The following month was my 24th birthday and I held a little party at home. I invited my new friends in our cell group, along with this guy.

As the custom in our family, there were many dishes prepared. But I personally cooked two dishes — seafood rice and beef stroganoff. These were restaurant-style homecooked dishes that I personally prepared for our guests. Little did I know that this Asian guy already confirmed in his heart that I was the answer to his prayers. He had decided that night that I would become his wife. haha

He thought that if his wife knows how to cook, he would never be hungry! haha

A Criterion in His Prayer for a Wife

Last time, I wrote about how my husband had prayed for his future wife. He was pretty specific about it. And one of the items in his prayer list was that the woman should know how to cook.

Here’s that story: Praying for a Spouse and Getting Exactly What You Asked For

I never knew about this prayer list while we were dating. We were already married several years when I stumbled upon his list while cleaning up his old box of stuff.

Asian Men Love Their Wives Cooking for Them

One of my favorite pastimes is reading Chinese novels. It is there that I realized that Asian men like their women who can cook. While some of them can be handy in the kitchen, it seems there is a certain preference for women who can whip homecooked dishes for the family. They especially like it if they come home to hot meals after a long day at work.

Additionally, most Chinese women prepare their family’s birthday party dishes, even if they are wealthy. One of the dishes that wives usually make for their husbands is the tedious Chinese birthday misua.

Of course, it is not a guarantee that you will have a happy marriage if you know how to cook. But I am just saying that it is one aspect that most Asian men look for their spouses. If you don’t know how to cook, you can always order food for delivery like.
