Before 2024 closed, Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) raced to electrify not just one but three off-grid communities in Central Negros. This initiative brought light—not only to homes but also to the dreams and aspirations of residents who had long awaited access to power. These three communities will not only celebrate to welcome the new year but also to welcome a brighter future now that they are connected to the electric grid.

President Bongbong Marcos signed Negros Power’s franchise into law on July 26, 2024, under Republic Act No. 12011. The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) granted its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) on October 16, 2024. Despite starting operations only recently, Negros Power has already achieved remarkable progress in a short time.

Illuminating Sitio Bocboc, Talisay City

On December 17, Sitio Bocboc in Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City, celebrated as 20 out of 35 households were connected to the power grid. Despite the challenging weather, the joy of the residents, along with the presence of Talisay LGU officials and Negros Power representatives, was undeniable.

“We lived in such darkness for so long,” shared Gina Tulis, a resident of Sitio Bocboc. “We are so grateful to Negros Power. They came to our remote area, even though it was difficult, and brought us electricity. Now we have lights, transformers, meters, and everything we need.”

This electrification project not only improved the quality of life but also opened new opportunities for education, safety, and livelihood in the area.

Energizing Purok 8, Bacolod City

Three days later, the celebration moved to Purok 8, Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City, where another 37 out of 64 households were connected to the grid. Bacolod LGU and barangay officials joined Negros Power in marking this momentous occasion.

The project highlighted Negros Power’s steadfast commitment to electrifying its franchise areas, ensuring that even the most remote communities receive reliable access to electricity.

Overcoming Challenges in Don Salvador Benedicto

In Purok Citrus, Barangay Bunga, Municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto, the path to electrification was literally uphill. Negros Power’s team braved more than a kilometer of rugged terrain to bring electricity to 47 households.

Mayor Lawrence Marxlen Dela Cruz expressed the community’s collective joy:
“We are so happy! The whole community is overjoyed. As the mayor, I am grateful, thankful, and proud of Negros Power for helping us achieve this long-held dream of having electricity in this area.”

Negros Power President and CEO Roel Castro reaffirmed the company’s dedication to universal electrification:
“We are dedicated to electrifying all residents in our franchise area, no matter how remote or challenging. Every consumer deserves access to electricity, and we will continue to work tirelessly to make that happen.”

Chief Operating Officer Engr. Bernard Bailey Del Castillo added:
“It is so fulfilling to see our customers so happy. Our goal was to bring light to these Sitios before the year ends, and we have achieved that. More sitios will be energized in the next three years.”
