CENECO and Negros Power join forces to have one common goal. This collaboration is to enhance the reliability and stability of the electricity supply for Bacolod City and Central Negros. The partnership between Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) and Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC) was highlighted during the recent preventive maintenance scheduled by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) last July 28, 2024.
Also, they recognized the need to minimize consumer inconvenience. This is why CENECO and NEPC strategically coincided their maintenance activities with NGCP’s scheduled power outages. By doing so, they avoided the necessity of additional power interruptions at different times. This coordinated effort is evidence of their commitment to improving the region’s energy infrastructure efficiently and effectively.
Synchronizing Maintenance for Greater Efficiency
During the NGCP’s scheduled power outage, CENECO and Negros Power undertook several critical maintenance tasks. Their efforts included preventive maintenance and integrity testing of the Panaogao Substation and the integration of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) facility. This system enhancement is essential for modernizing the substation’s operations, allowing for better monitoring and control of the electrical network.
Additionally, the Bacolod-Silay 69kV transmission line and related poles have undergone maintenance. This included the replacement of deteriorated primary poles and extensive tree-clearing activities. This is to prevent potential disruptions caused by vegetation encroachment. They also managed load transfers between substations to optimize electricity distribution and ensure a balanced load across the network.
Supporting Bacolod’s Vision for the Future
Mayor Albee Benitez envisions Bacolod City becoming a Super City. A crucial component of this vision is a stable and dependable energy supply supporting the city’s rapidly growing sectors such as IT, BPO, tourism, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE), and creative industries. “We need a Distribution Utility capable of meeting the demands of our growing modernizing economy,” stated Mayor Benitez. He emphasized the necessity for affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to realize this ambitious goal.
To support this vision, Negros Power has pledged its commitment to providing high-quality electrical services. Their collaboration with CENECO is a testament to their dedication to this cause. Over the past few weeks, Negros Power and CENECO have joined forces to improve the electrical infrastructure, preparing it to meet the future needs of Bacolod City and its surrounding areas.
Key Maintenance Activities Undertaken
During the power shutdown, CENECO and NEPC accomplished several significant tasks:
- Panaogao Substation: Preventive maintenance and integrity testing, along with SCADA facility integration.
- Bacolod-Silay 69kV Transmission Line: Comprehensive preventive maintenance and pole replacements.
- Tree Clearing: Essential clearing of vegetation to maintain the integrity of power lines.
- Load Transfers: Strategic load transfers between substations to maintain a balanced and efficient distribution of electricity.
These efforts are key to having a strong and dependable power supply, which is essential for Bacolod’s ongoing growth and development.
The harmonious collaboration between CENECO and Negros Power exemplifies a proactive approach to regional development. By aligning their maintenance schedules with NGCP’s outages, they have shown a deep commitment to minimizing inconvenience while maximizing efficiency. With reliable and sustainable energy at its core, Bacolod is well on its way to achieving this ambitious goal of becoming a Super City.
