Switching to renewable energy just got easier for Ilonggos! MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) has partnered with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to simplify the process for Net-Metering and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) applications. This initiative makes it easier for people in Iloilo City, Central Negros, and Tagbilaran City to access renewable energy solutions.
Renewable Energy Applications, A Simpler Way to Go Green
On November 11, 2024, MORE Power proposed consolidating all Net-Metering and DER Certificate of Compliance (COC) applications at their Iloilo City Customer Care Office. The ERC has agreed to handle all applications at the MORE Power office on a monthly basis.
Here’s how the new process benefits everyone:
- Faster Applications: ERC representatives will now process applications on-site every month, speeding up approval times.
- One-Stop-Shop Convenience: Applications from MORE Power, Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC), and Bohol Light Company Inc. (BLCI) can all be handled in one place.
“This initiative will make it easier for residents and businesses in Iloilo, Central Negros, and Tagbilaran City to access renewable energy,” said Roel Z. Castro, President and CEO of MORE Power.
Harnessing the Power of DER for a Sustainable Future
Distributed Energy Resources (DER) refers to small-scale power generation and storage technologies that are located close to the point of use. Unlike traditional power plants, which send energy across long distances, DER generates electricity right where it’s needed. It often uses renewable sources. DER includes:
- Solar Panels
- Wind Turbines
- Energy Storage Systems (like batteries)
These technologies allow consumers to generate their own electricity, potentially lowering costs and reducing their carbon footprint.
ERC Supports the Change
The ERC has fully supported MORE Power’s efforts. Chairperson Monalisa Dimalanta praised the initiative. “This is a significant step toward energy democracy, and Iloilo City can lead the way for other cities to follow,” she said.
This isn’t the first time MORE Power has worked with the ERC. Back in August 2023, they signed a tripartite agreement with the ERC and Iloilo City to create a one-stop shop for renewable energy technologies. To date, 33 Net-Metering customers have joined the program, producing 172,997 kWh in October 2024 alone.
Local Leaders Are On Board
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas highlighted how this initiative supports sustainability efforts, reducing energy costs and encouraging green practices.
Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez also showed his support, emphasizing the benefits of giving local communities easier access to renewable energy.
What’s Next for Renewable Energy?
Here’s how MORE Power and the ERC are taking this further:
- Streamlined Processes: The ERC will assist in simplifying paperwork, installations, payments, and permitting.
- Spreading the Word: MORE Power and the ERC will conduct information drives to educate consumers about the benefits of renewable energy.
This collaboration not only makes renewable energy more accessible but also contributes to environmental sustainability. By encouraging households and businesses to adopt solar, wind, or other DER technologies, MORE Power and the ERC are helping reduce electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
A Brighter, Greener Future
The MORE Power-ERC partnership is leading the way for renewable energy adoption in the Visayas. By making the switch to clean energy easier, they’re helping create a more sustainable future.
